'5 people are planning their exit because of this': Entitled coworker gets promotion after becoming company president's "work girlfriend," makes other employees consider leaving

    is going on at my job? Is my time at my current job done? I feel like this might be long so I want to apologize in advanced. I have been in my current position for a little over 4 years now and I came to this position with previous experience so I roughly have 9 years in my current title/job.

    I currently think that my job is pushing me out or I'm just sensing my time is done. I have a coworker - let's call her Joyce. Joyce joined the company about 2 years ago (is roughly 4 years younger than me in her early-mid twenties). This is her first job after getting her Masters. So must note she has no experience but is getting paid more than most people on our small team of 14 people purely because of her masters.

    Annoying but whatever. These past 6 months Joyce has made work MISERABLE. She is condescending, makes weird comments that are borderline bu ying, has a horrible tone and just is oblivious to how much most people strongly dislike her.

    Our Director was out on family leave for around 3 months and in that time period our team was destroyed because of Joyce and our president. I want to preface this by saying there's no way in h I that Joyce is sleeping with the president but she went around bragging to multiple people that the president made a joke that Joyce is his work girlfriend.

    Regardless during this time Joyce brown nosed the h I out of our president so when our director came back and everyone complained our president claimed that we're all "just jealous" of Joyce.

    We all have very legitimate complaints, not petty drama. Well two weeks ago we had our yearly performance reviews and we were finally hopeful that Joyce would finally get a tough conversation from our Director because she said she would handle it and try to fix the clear culture issues that were created from Joyce.

    Fast forward to this week and we find out Joyce got a promotion. There are 5 people that are planning their exit because of this including myself. I'm genuinely dumbfounded on why this happened. Over 9 people complained about Joyce, our Director has expressed her unhappiness with what happened and yet here we are and Joyce got a promotion.

    Look I know work doesn't care about you but this is baffling. Does anyone have anything to add to why this is happening? A few coworkers and myself cannot figure it out.

    FR... In my experience, after 5-7 years at the same job, its a good idea to start looking for something new. Whether you like it or not, you're stuck in the same role and people see you in that role forever. There is no room for reinvention as you have become part of the walls so to speak. The only way to keep sharp and develop is to find a new workplace.

    Upset_Researche... Some people manage upward better than they manage downward, or even sideways. Joyce found a way to connect with the president that makes the president view Joyce favorable. It might not even be work or s related. And in the president's eyes, Joyce was about to perform

    despite the director being out. Whether or not Joyce actually did perform is not the issue but whether the president actually believes. Joyce did. And clearly, the president not only feels. Joyce performed, but she has become a trusted person for him.

    angelmakr9 We have a crappy supervisor that bonded with our district manager over limited edition sneakers. The sup has an attitude problem, anger issues and any time. he wants time off of work he throws his radio and storms out, (usually on a Wednesday). He returns to work like nothing happened and got himself a 4 day weekend.
